Little League All-Stars: General Information
Cap City All-Stars Teams
Each summer, Little Leagues around the world select All-Stars teams made up of players from their league. These All-Stars teams compete in tournaments--first against local Little Leagues and, if they advance, against Little Leagues across the country.
Cap City typically fields four All-Stars teams:
- 10U Baseball (players league age 10 and younger)
- 11U Baseball (players league age 11 and younger)
- 12U Baseball (players league age 12 and younger)
- 12U Softball (players league age 12 and younger)
The All-Star experience is Little League's most competitive program and requires a greater financial, time, and emotional investment than a regular Spring or Fall season.
What is the general timeline?
All-Stars teams are selected on or after May 15. Depending on the team (10U, 11U, or 12U), there are two to three tournaments during the summer.
DC Little League State Tournament
- Each All-Stars team participates in a DC Little League State tournament, which is held in Washington, D.C.
- These tournaments last about a week and typically take place between mid-June and mid-July. In the past, the 12U softball tournament is scheduled in mid-June, with the 10U baseball, 11U baseball, and 12U baseball tournaments following in subsequent weeks.
- When DC Little League State Tournament dates are announced, Cap City will share this information with families via email.
Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament
- All-Stars teams that win the DC LL State Championship advance to the Mid-Atlantic Region tournaments. These tournaments are held outside of Washington, D.C. from late July to mid-August.
- For the 10U and 11U All-Stars teams, this is the final tournament.
Little League World Series
- 12U teams that advance in their regional tournaments can go on to play in the Little League World Series.
- The Little League Baseball World Series is held in mid to late August in Williamsport, PA.
- The Little League Softball World Series is held in early to mid August in Greenville, NC.
What is the player time commitment?
Once selected, All-Stars teams practice multiple times per week leading up to the DC LL State Tournament and, if applicable, leading up to the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament. Practices are held around the DMV.
Who Can Play on an All-Stars Team?
To be eligible, a player must meet the following criteria:
- Player must be rostered on a Cap City AAA (baseball) or Majors (baseball or softball) team in the Spring season. A player must have played in at least 8 games played by their team during the Spring season.
- Player must participate in the All-Stars tryouts and/or selection process.
- The player and parents should plan to be available to attend most, if not all, practices and games during the All Star period.
- The player and parents must provide a birth certificate and other residency documentation as required by Little League International and DC State Little League. Failure to provide documentation in a timely manner is grounds for dismissal from the team.
How Are Players selected for the All-Stars teams?
Players are selected for the All-Stars teams based on several factors, including skill, position competence, attitude, and availability. All-Stars managers make the final rostering decision with approval from the Cap City Board.
10U and 11U Baseball All-Stars
AAA and Majors Division players are invited to participate in All-Stars try-outs in mid-May. These try-outs are managed by a third party evaluator and are attended by All-Stars Managers and Coaches and Cap City Board Members. Based on the try-outs and other relevant factors, the All-Stars managers for these teams select players for the All-Stars teams. Rosters are approved by the Cap City Board.
12U Baseball All-Stars
Players are selected to the 12U Baseball All-Stars team through a combination of input, including voting by current players in the Majors Division and input from Majors Division Coaches. The 12U All-Stars Manager selects players and the roster is approved by the Cap City Board.
12U Softball All-Stars
The 12U softball all stars will be selected after a tryout conducted by the coaching staff toward the end of the regular season. All eligible players are invited to try out.
How Are the Managers of All-Stars teams selected?
The managers and assistant coaches for each All-Stars team are selected and approved by the Cap City Board. Eligible coaches will be invited to apply in late March through mid-April. Prospective managers will be interviewed by a Board sub-committee. The Board will appoint managers and their assistant coaches in early to mid-May.
