Softball Divisions

Single A Softball (6U)—Tee Ball & Coach Pitch

League ages 4 to 6 (girls-only)

Single A softball is a tee ball and coach pitch division for Cap City’s youngest female players.

The emphasis is on fun and skills development. Girls are introduced to the basics of hitting, catching, throwing, fielding and base running in a non-competitive environment. No formal games are held at this level. Players practice on Saturday mornings.

AA Softball (8U)—Coach Pitch

League ages 7 to 8 (girls-only)

AA Softball is a coach pitch division for Cap City’s younger female players.

The emphasis is on fun and skills development. Open to beginners and younger players looking to play games (intraleague and interleague). One weeknight practice per week with one game on the weekend (usually Sunday).

Girls are introduced to the basics of hitting, catching, throwing, fielding and base running in a low-pressure environment.

Fields: Forest Hills, Upshur, and other area fields

8U

AAA Softball (10U)—Modified Kid Pitch

League ages 8 to 10 (girls-only)

AAA Softball is for beginners and more experienced players who are still learning to play the game and developing basic skills like hitting, catching, throwing and base running.

AAA Softball introduces kid pitch with modified rules. This includes coach pitch after ball four (no walks) to keep games active. A 35 ft pitching distance is used. AAA players are learning the skills to advance to the next level.

Teams practice once a week and play games on Sundays. Games are intraleague and interleague.

Fields: Forest Hills, Upshur, and other area fields

Majors Softball (12U)—Kid Pitch

League ages 11 to 12 (girls-only)

Players in Majors Softball, while they may still be first-time players, will have the ability and skills to play by almost all the accepted rules, including sliding, stealing, dropped third-strike, and infield fly.

This division sees an increased speed of the pitched ball and an increased number of defensive plays. All girls in this division should be ready to hit a pitched ball and know the rules of the game. At this level, teams use a 40 ft pitching distance.

Teams practice once a week, with an optional second practice on the weekend, and play games on Sundays. Games are intraleague and interleague.

Girls in this division are eligible to try out for Cap City's All-Stars Softball Team.

12U softball

Juniors Softball (14U)—Kid Pitch

League ages 12 to 14 (girls-only)

Juniors Softball comprises players who have demonstrated skills commensurate with the highest level of play that Cap City has to offer.

Juniors Softball has faster/better pitching and an overall higher quality of play than Majors Softball. A 43 ft pitching distance is used at this level. Although this division is still skill-based and recreational, girls should come ready to play the game more competitively. Games are interleague and intraleague.

Teams practice once or twice a week and play games on Saturday or Sunday.
