Thank you to all the players, parents, coaches, and volunteers that made this Spring season happen from National Division to A, AA, AAA, Majors, Challenger, and Softball! It is a team effort with hundreds of volunteers putting in hours of their time as coaches, umpires, commissioners, and event planners – to make baseball and softball a reality for the kids in our community. To recognize all the amazing Cap City volunteers, we are planning a Volunteer Recognition event. More details on that will be shared soon.
Also, there are a lot of baseball and softball events happening this summer. Details below!

- June 29: T-Ball Jamboree hosted by Senators Satchel Paige LL at Bryce Harper Field from 10am to 2pm.
- Sundays, June 30 to July 28: Summer Sandlots. Details and registration info below.
- Late August/early Sept:Preliminary dates for the Fall Assessment for prospective Majors and AAA (Baseball) players are Aug. 25 & 26 (with rain dates of Aug. 27 & 28) and Sept. 2 (rain date Sept. 3).
End of Season Survey – We Want Your Feedback!
We invite all families that played in the Spring 2024 season to participate in the Cap City end of season survey. Cap City is always looking to improve the player and family experience, and in order to do that we need your feedback.
The survey takes less than 5 minutes. At the end of the survey, put in your email address to be entered into a drawing for free Fall 2024 registration.

If you have more than one player in Cap City please complete separate surveys for each player. The Cap City board will review all feedback and use it to identify areas of improvement. Thank you for your time and feedback.
Summer All Stars Tournaments – We Are Cap City!
The Summer All-Star Tournaments start in less than 1 week! We’d love for everyone to come out and support Cap City’s All-Star teams. The first DC Little League Tournament games for each Cap City team are:
- 12U Softball: June 18 or 20 (TBD) vs.Northwest LL , 6:30pm @ Nats Youth Baseball Academy, Field#3
- 10U Baseball: June 25 vs either Mamie Johnson LL or Capitol Hill LL, 6pm @ Ft. Lincoln Park
- 11U Baseball: July 1 vs. Banneker City LL, 6pm @ Chevy Chase Recreation Center
- 12U Baseball: July 8 vs. Capitol Hill LL, 6pm @ Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB)**, Field#3

****To attend the 12U baseball games at JBAB, all fans 18 & older MUST provide their Name, DOB, and Passport or Driver’s License # to DC State Little League using this a form emailed to you. The deadline to submit this information is June 20. All fans must be cleared to enter JBAB, which is a military installation.*****

Summer Sandlots for Single A, AA and Aspiring AAA players
We will again offer our Summer Sandlot program this summer! Sandlots are a mix of instruction (put on by Wild Bill Sports) and organized scrimmages. They’re great for kids to hang out with their teammates, make new Cap City friends, and pick up some great baseball instruction!

The Summer Sandlot program is 5 consecutive Sundays of 1-hour baseball sessions:
- June 30
- July 7
- July 14
- July 21
- July 28
Location: Forest Hills baseball field (32nd and Chesapeake St. NW).
There are 3 levels of programming to choose from, based on your child’s expected Division in the fall. Sessions will include approximately 20 mins of skills development and 40 mins of scrimmage play. Each level will keep the same time slot every Sunday.
- 9am: Machine Pitch (Players expecting to play in Division A in Fall 2024). This level is for players looking to transition from the National Division to the machine pitch Division A, and players planning on returning to Division A.
- 10:00am: Kid Pitch Novice/Intermediate (Players expecting to play in Division AA in Fall 2024). This level is for recent Division A players planning to transition to kid-pitch Division AA, and returning Division AA players looking to tune up from their first Division AA experience.
- 11:00am: Kid Pitch Experienced/More Advanced (Players who may play in Division AAA in Fall 2024). This level is for Division AAA players returning to AAA or Division AA players who may be interested in moving up to AAA in Fall 2024 (commitment to AAA is not required).
The fee is $75 and that covers all 5 Sunday sessions, even if you have to miss one or more of them due to summer travel, etc. Scholarships are available if the registration fee is a barrier to your kid playing. Please contact secretary@capcityll.org for more details.
Congratulations to Division Champions
Majors Champions
Congratulations to the Expos for their Majors Championship with an exciting win against a tough Swamp Monsters team. The Expos were coached by Luke Jones, Mike Montgomery, and Sam McFerran.
AAA Champions
Congratulations to the Waterdogs for their AAA championship,with a thrilling win versus the Thunderbirds. The Waterdogs were coached by Michael Umpierre, Jeff Skinner, and Dan Smith.
AA Champions
Congratulations to the Warriors for their AA championship with a spirited win against The Lightning. The Warriors were coached by Josh Head, Mithun Bargav, Jon Gorman, Mary Gorman, and Evan Goldberg.
Single A Champions
The Single A Championship was divided into an experienced and learners bracket. Congratulations to the Bears for their win against the Bobcats in the experienced bracket. The Bears were coached by Ben Rich, David Meyers, Jeff Kruszewski, Courtney Paul, and Mike Gartell.
Congratulations to the Chevy Chasers for their win against the Whalesharks in the learners bracket. The Chevy Chasers were coached by Josh Novikoff, Sam Stein, Matt Roper, Brice Plebani, and Ethan Bronstein.
Majors 12U Ceremony and Home Run Derby
Majors players and families celebrated the end of their season with a Home Run Derby and awards ceremony for the graduating 12U players. There were several homeruns and a few balls that went onto Western Avenue into Maryland. Congratulations to Milo Montgomery for winning the Home Run Derby. Afterwards, all Majors players enjoyed a fun celebration and the 12U players were honored with awards for their time playing with Cap City.

**The travel age for the Fall 2024 season is determined by your player’s age on 5/1/25.**
Play Ball Weekend – Hosted by the Nats Youth Baseball Academy
The Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is hosting a clinic and a competition on Saturday, June 15 @ Nats Academy (3675 Ely Pl SE Washington DC 20019).
The two options are:
- YBA PLAY style skills clinic open to ages 5-12
- Pitch Hit & Run Competitive for ages 10-14 – Youth will participate in a hitting competition, throwing competition, and running competition.
Check-in starts at 9:30am and the events end at 12. It is free and all are welcome!

Nats Youth Academy Looking for Volunteer Coaches This Summer
The Nats Youth Baseball Academy is looking for volunteer coaches for their Summer YBA PLAY program. This is a great opportunity for high school-aged Cap City Alums, parents, or community members who want to support growing the game of baseball in the DC’s most underserved communities.

Ned Lazarus – Cap City’s Team UP Volunteer of the Year
Cheetahs (Majors baseball) coach Ned Lazarus was recognized by the Nationals Team UP program as our volunteer of the year. The award recognizes a volunteer that “has shown exceptional commitment to the league, encouraged youth players, and exemplified teamwork and sportsmanship.” Ned was nominated for the years he has spent carefully curating a positive culture, supportive mentality, and sportsmanship. Congratulations, Ned!
Michael Umpierre – Cap City’s Positive Coaching Alliance Coach of the Year Nominee
Cap City nominated AAA Waterdogs coach Michael Umpierre for Positive Coaching Alliance coach of the year, recognizing his extraordinary contributions as AAA coach and the sportsmanship and enthusiasm that came from the Waterdogs. Tone is set at the top and we’re rooting for you, Michael!
