October 2023 News

Happy October!! We are nearing the end of our Fall baseball and softball seasons, and it’s great to see all the kids and coaches playing ball and having fun. This Fall we have 8 softball teams and 35 baseball teams across all divisions. That’s a lot of softball and baseball! Thank you for playing with Cap City and we hope to see you back in the Spring.

A message on Transparency and Accountability

In light of recent reporting in The Washington Post and other local blogs concerning improprieties within another Little League program in DC, the Cap City Board would like to reaffirm its longstanding commitment to transparency and accountability.

We have numerous checks, balances, and internal controls built into all of our transactions to ensure no self-dealing, conflicts of interest, or wasteful spending. This includes use of an outside management company. Cap City Little League funds are mostly used to pay for new or replacement equipment, field improvements, and events, as well as for the creation of a rainy-day fund. And we have zero tolerance for fraud, waste, and abuse of league funds, which the Board believes should only be used to improve the baseball and softball experience for our kids. We also have annual legal training to remind us of our fiduciary obligations as board members. All this to say, we do not take our responsibilities lightly.

Thank you for your continuing commitment to Cap City and we are privileged to serve on a Board whose mission is to improve the baseball and softball experience of our kids. To report a concern to the Board, please email Adam at president@capcityll.org or Matt at safety@capcityll.org.
